We had brunch at The Kitchen and wow... it was delicious. We even had dessert after brunch... that was irresponsible. :) It was such a perfect day in Boulder, but back to Denver we went.... I had some work I needed to do.
I had a long bike ride planned for the afternoon. How long? I wasn't really sure. I'm 4 weeks away from my first century ride (100 miles), so I knew I needed to spend some solid time on my bike. I headed out toward Chatfield Res. and wouldn't you know, the path was closed. So, I turned around and headed north along the South Platte River. Before I knew it, I had gone 20 miles in one direction and felt great. When it was all said and done, I rode 46 miles and felt like I could have continued for hours. Legs felt great. At the turn-around, I looked back and could barely see the Denver skyline. I knew I had really covered some distance!
Whew! It is days like today that make me so excited to continue pushing my limits. Before my first half-ironman, I had never been more than 26 miles on my bike (half-ironman is a 56 mile bike). My second half-ironman, I BARELY touched the bike before the race. I'm training harder, earlier in the season than I have before and I'm really starting to reap the benefits of increased fitness. It's only going to get harder, but great days like this make it exciting, not daunting.
Have a great week, thanks for stopping by.
